Project Description (Problem/Solution/Results)

Remodeling Need

These homeowners came to Riverside Construction with a long list of improvements they wanted for their kitchen and main floor living area.

Their home had been added on to a few times leaving the home with an odd layout. In particular, a large fireplace was awkwardly situated in its original location dividing two smaller living spaces. It was functional and had vents running through it from the utilities in the basement, but it was impacting the homeowner’s ability to have an open-concept kitchen and living room space.

These clients wanted to remove the wall between the kitchen and the dining room, as well as take out the fireplace to achieve the open and airy space they envisioned. They also wanted to make better use of their eat-in area, and update the flooring throughout.

Design Solution

Riverside Construction started by removing the large fireplace, and the interior wall between the kitchen and dining room. This immediately created the open-concept floor plan the homeowners envisioned. Space was reclaimed from the original eat-in kitchen area to allow for a sizable, reach-in pantry that offered plenty of new storage space.

The kitchen was transformed with new gray semi-custom cabinetry in a Pendleton door style, and Fresh Concrete Caesarstone Quartz, the latest interpretation of crisp white concrete delicately touched by subtle grays that create warmth and organic energy.

The large 12” x 24” Daltile backsplash was chosen to create a subtle yet bold statement and a cohesive look to the space. A new large island with seating for four helped to define the kitchen while adding valuable food prep space and increased storage capacity. Black hardware, modern fixtures, and geometric metal pendants added contemporary elegance to the space, and the MSI luxury vinyl plank flooring tied the whole room together.

Result

Riverside Construction redesigned a kitchen and living room space with the aesthetics, flow, and function our clients wanted, in an open-concept floor plan. The homeowners were thrilled with the creative design process and the construction quality.
