Project Description (Problem/Solution/Results)

Remodeling Need

This homeowner approached Riverside Construction with a desire to transform her dark and dated 80’s kitchen into a light and bright modern space. While the U-shaped layout remained the same, essential design changes significantly improved the kitchen’s functionality.

Design Solution

A partial wall, including an upper bank of cabinets above the peninsula, was removed, opening up the kitchen and allowing additional bar seating and upgraded storage solutions. This small change also made a big difference in brightening up the space due to the enhanced lighting plan, which included task and undercabinet lighting. Replacing the brown cabinets with soft white Wellborn raised-panel style cabinets also helped lighten up the space. Riverside topped the countertops with a dark granite slab creating an attractive visual contrast to the Daltile Uptown Glass Mosaic backsplash. The range and refrigerator were also rearranged to achieve a better workflow.

The flooring was replaced with an Anatolia Regency Porcelain tile, which was expanded into the adjacent family room and mudroom to create a seamless flow between the two spaces.

Result

A bright, highly functional kitchen that beautifully blends with the rest of the home.
