Project Description (Problem/Solution/Results)

Remodeling Need

The homeowners faced several challenges with their Lafayette home’s kitchen: it was outdated, lacked sufficient countertop space and storage, and included a washer and dryer that consumed valuable room. Additionally, a wall dividing the kitchen and family room created a cramped atmosphere. The family room, following an earlier addition to the house, had become a mere passageway rather than a functional space. The kitchen’s layout also hindered easy access to the backyard, affecting outdoor grilling and entertaining opportunities.

Design Solution

Riverside Construction’s solution was comprehensive and transformative. The wall between the kitchen and family room was removed, enlarging the kitchen and repurposing the family room into a dining area. To address the laundry issue, a dedicated laundry room was created at the end of the dining room. The kitchen was completely reconfigured, moving from the exterior to the interior wall. This change facilitated the installation of a larger sliding door leading to the backyard, enhancing both access and natural light. The former laundry space was converted into a pantry and refrigerator area, significantly boosting storage options. Additionally, an island was introduced, offering extra workspace and a cozy dining spot within the kitchen. The renovation’s design also featured vibrant pops of color in the island and backsplash, invigorating the space with a lively and inviting ambiance. Notably, the homeowners, who were quite handy, actively participated in the project by undertaking all the demolition work and new trim installations, adding a personal touch to the transformation.

Result

The kitchen remodel achieved a perfect blend of functionality and style, meeting the homeowners’ needs and preferences. The new layout and design elements not only solved the practical issues but also infused the space with light, openness, and a welcoming atmosphere. The homeowners now enjoy a kitchen that not only serves their daily needs but also enhances their home’s overall aesthetic and functionality, making it ideal for both everyday living and entertaining.
