Team News & Updates

January/February 2025

Thank you for being a part of our team. Your commitment to improving our customers' lives by helping them with their home needs is a critical part of what we do. Thank you for taking care of them!

Wins

  • We recently held our second in-office remodeling workshop, and it was a great success! Attendance was fantastic, and many participants have expressed interest in pursuing remodeling projects. A special thanks to Casey, Jaron, Brian, Jen and Andy for their hard work in making this event possible. We’re excited to host several more workshops in the coming year!
  • Kelly went and talked as an expert at the local builder's association meeting. She and a panel of other specialists talked to the local building community about what they are seeing as local building and remodeling trends.
  • Riverside and Home Care and Repair held our annual Holiday party. We met at Ripple and Co and enjoyed some great appetizers and delicious brisket and mac and cheese. We enjoyed spending time together outside of work focusing on our commonalities. We also did some building out of irregular materials. We competed in one of 2 categories - Tallest and Most creative. The team of Aaron, Amanda, Kelly and Doug won most creative for their Moana chicken. The team of Joel, Wesley and Hannah won for the tallest with a project that touched the ceiling joists. Our fantastic judges were completely fair and impartial. We plan to do this again next year, so plan to join us then!

Update on our SIMPLE (retirement) options

The 1st round of employees have started saving into the SIMPLE Roth accounts! In a recent update we have learned that if you do a SIMPLE Roth alone, Riverside can match it, it just gets put into a Standard SIMPLE account rather than into the SIMPLE Roth account. As a reminder we offer access to both a Standard SIMPLE pre-tax, matched option (up to 3% matched) and a Roth, post-tax, option. The pretax option allows you to reduce your tax burden now and then pay taxes on the money and the interest as you pull the money out for retirement. The Roth option allows you to pay taxes on the money now and then NOT pay extra taxes on the money and the interest you have earned as you take it out of the account for retirement. Signing up for this can happen at any point in time over the year.

Consider increasing or starting your investing in your retirement fund the next time you get a raise! You won't feel like you are missing any extra money and yet you will be saving for your retirement!

Reminder: Mailboxes

If you ever need to leave something for someone, keep in mind that we have mailboxes in the office for most employees! Employees that work in the office a majority of the day have mailboxes up front behind Taylor. HCR field staff have mailboxes in Brians office and the Riverside field crews have mailboxes in the breakroom. If you can't find a mailbox for someone - reach out to Casey and she'll either hold the item for you or direct you to where to place it for easy retrieval.

Updates to Profit-Sharing Program

Riverside is updating its profit-sharing program. Instead of one larger sum at the end of the year, we will be providing profit sharing based on meeting or exceeding fiscal criteria as each quarter is finished.

Upcoming Marketing events

Riverside and Home Care and Repair will both be participating in several upcoming events. If you know someone interested in working with either company, one of these events may be a great place for them to talk to someone!

2/22 - BAGL Home Building & Remodeling show starting at 9:00 at the Fairgrounds. Both companies will have booths.

Trades spotlight

MC Gutter Solutions Inc. (Previously The Gutter Group)

Matt Akers with MC Gutter Solutions has been doing gutter work for us since 2011. His expertise and speed in getting gutters onto our clients' houses is much appreciated and make their lives better. If you see Matt or his team, take a minute to thank them!

Core Value Focus:

Quality Craftsmanship

We are dedicated to delivering the highest standards of workmanship, reflected in the professionals we hire and the exceptional service they provide to our clients.

Great current examples of how this is being done:

Kevin suggesting that he do the install of the stair flooring around the new railings that he had just put in at the Hall house.

Noah and Micah re-laying the subfloor at Bollock to give them the best possible long-term life of their new flooring.

Kelly and Jill checking out various cabinet companies to find one that better meets the needs of our customers.

There are lots of different ways that individuals have provided our customers with Quality Craftsmanship. Thank you for continuing to make this a priority!

HR Benefit Reminder

AFLAC Program

On a yearly basis Jeff from AFLAC comes to the Riverside Office to inform us of all the different plans that AFLAC offers. He usually comes late February or early March. AFLAC offers supplemental insurance that provides you with cash to use to cover things like accidents, cancer treatments and several other programs.

Riverside Construction works with Aflac to connect our employees to supplemental insurance options.  Riverside does not cover these costs, but they can be withdrawn from your paycheck at your request and paid directly to AFLAC.  If you are interested in participating in Aflac please reach out to the HR Manager.

Employee Spotlight:

Caleb Coley

With three years of remodeling experience under his belt, Caleb specializes in painting, framing, and adding those all-important finishing touches that bring a project to life. For him, the best part of remodeling is watching a space transform from the rough outline on a plan into a tangible, beautiful reality—it never gets old.

What Caleb Loves About Riverside

Caleb appreciates the sense of structure at Riverside and the chance to focus on each detail without feeling rushed. He knows that when he has time to do things properly, the end result is something he’s proud to stand behind.

Outside of Work

Away from the job site, Caleb’s passions include playing games, catching up on sports, and making music. He also cherishes time spent relaxing with his family—though, as a Minnesota Vikings fan, he admits they test his loyalty every season. Even so, he’s always looking forward to the next game (and hoping for the best!).

Work/Life Balance Tip

  • Prioritize Tasks: Focus on completing your most important tasks first, and delegate or postpone less urgent ones. This can help reduce stress and give you more time for personal activities.
  • Take Regular Breaks: Short breaks during the day can recharge you and help maintain focus and energy levels.
  • Use Technology Wisely: Leverage apps and tools for task management, scheduling, and time tracking to help stay on top of your work and prevent it from spilling into your personal time.
  • Set Realistic Expectations: Understand that perfection isn’t always achievable. Focus on progress, not perfection, in both your work and personal life.
  • Unplug on Weekends: If possible, try to fully disconnect from work over the weekend, so you can return on Monday feeling refreshed.
  • Seek Support: If you’re struggling with balance, talk to HR about additional resources.
