Project Number 6 – Front Porch Entry

The first thing people see when they look at your home is your front porch entry.  Making it welcoming and inviting can dramatically improve the appeal of your home.  In some cases major changes can make a huge impact on the front of your home.  In other cases realatively inexpensive and simple changes can make a big difference.  Here are some of our best suggestions to increase the curb appeal of your home and update your front porch.

• Replace the front door with something more attractive and energy efficent.
• Change the door color to draw attention to it or draw attention to something else.
• Change the door knob to update the style of your home.
• Add colorful plants or flowers to make your entry more welcoming.
• Change or add a light fixture to increase visiblilty or update the front porch.
• Add welcoming seating or furniture to increase the usability of your front porch.
• Update the paint or stain on the porch or trim to change the look of your home.
• Add or update railings for safety or to change the lines of your front porch.
• Add accesories like door mats, house numbers or other outdoor art to tie everything together and create the mood that you are looking to achieve.

Sometimes a major change makes the most sense.  We are currently in the process of updating the front porch of our office.  Our old front porch was small, uncovered and didn’t match the scale or style of the rest of the building.  We’re currently working on addressing not only these issues, but also adding a ramp to allow our office to be handicapped accesible.  To see photos of the process and how far we are you can click here to go to the Riverside Construction Facebook photo album with the pictures.
